The world is celebrate the birth of guru nanak dev ji.

11:52 AM

Today, Sikhs in Canada and around the world celebrate the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. To mark this happy occasion, Sikh families and loved ones celebrate and reflect on the teachings of the founder of Sikhism.

Let us be inspired by his teachings of equality, unity, selflessness, service, and social justice. In meeting with Sikhs across the country, I see these teachings upheld to this day.

On behalf of our family, Sophie and I invite all Canadians to reflect on the significant contributions of the Sikh community to our national fabric, and wish all those celebrating the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji a peaceful and joyous day.

I had the chance to share my thoughts on the US election with the young leaders at WE Day this week in Ottawa. I wanted them to know that we will always work well together – and that we’re strong because we listen to and respect each other.

Justin Trudeau and Emma Watson Meeting About Women’s Rights in Canada.

9:38 AM

Great Britain has blessed Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau with its best and brightest this week, first with a visit from Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, and now with women’s rights advocate Emma Watson. Throw in a visit from Idris Elba, Shakespeare’s ghost, and Mel and Sue from The Great British Bake Off, and he would have no reason to venture across the Atlantic for a long while.

Watson was on site at Canadian Parliament Thursday to meet with the prime minister in the capacity of U.N. Women Goodwill Ambassador to promote international gender parity. The two exchanged laudatory words, beginning with Prime Minister Trudeau. “It’s great to be able to welcome Emma Watson to Parliament to talk about the important advocacy work she’s been doing for a number of years now,” he said. “The He For She campaign has had an extraordinary impact around the world making men champions of women’s issues that are everyone’s issues. Her voice is extremely important in making people realize how important this is.”

Watson assured Trudeau that she sees his feminist efforts, saying, “It’s been such an exciting visit for me to come and visit your Parliament. It’s so inspiring that you made your cabinet fifty-fifty.” (Watson is referring to the gender division in his cabinet, which is split evenly between male and female members.)

The two had recently convened at New York’s Museum of Modern Art for the U.N. Women’s He For She campaign reception, before heading to Ottawa for the One Young World summit. Starting today, Watson will be speaking with like-minded young people on gender equality.
